Jazz at the Black Fox Lounge

My friends and I decided that we should go out and act like adults for a change, last thursday. How else would one act like an adult, other than sitting at the bar listening to live jazz? I might have ruined our adult experience by buying a plate of loaded tater tots, and telling that I wanted a Shirley Temple (shaken . . . not stirred *in a sultry Angelina Jolie voice*). I’m my own kind of adult, and no one can stop me! It’s amazing what real musicians can do. These people simply got together and sight read (playing music for the first time, without memorizing the notes beforehand) the whole night, they looked to each other to stay on the right beat. Now that is trust. My empty Shirley Temple glass and my friends phone numbers on pieces of paper (for the raffle). Spoke to the singer afterwards, she was so happy that we were there. We got to the lounge early and stayed nearly the whole time (until around 1). Then we …

Photo Essay: Behind the Table

Dupont Circle has a local farmers market everyday from around 9am to 2pm. Where all of the DMV dairy farms, produce, chicken farms, and others get together to share the love of organic everything. Usually people like to focus on the food, because what else would you be thinking about at a farmers market?  But I think that more often the actual farmers are sort of looked over. We tend to forget how awesome they really are, and the fact that they love their job with a passion which they inadvertently pass onto their customers. (I know the pictures are a bit tiny but you can click on them to enlarge the size) So heres a look behind the table at the workers: Musical Accompaniment Venezuela/Peaches In a Pickle Cutting the Cheese (yes I went there, you only get so many opportunities) Scramble With a side of Shiitake In Bloom At the End of the Day Tomato face An Ear for Basil Sorry if it ever got a bit corn-y, I think I have a …

Po Boy’s for life

I want to go back to Willie’s Lobster Shack. Luckily I found out about the buy one get one free dal and devoured one shrimp po boy and one crab po boy. They used challah bread that was toasted to a crisp, THAT’S AMAZING! why didn’t I think of that? (probably because I’m not a cook. Thank you Willie for the delicious Po Boy’s. Ignore the fact that all of my school crap is in the background.

Steamboat Willy’s Guide to Fourth of July in Disneyworld

As a fellow foodie and traveler extraordinaire, the blogs mascot Steamboat Willy and I decided to show you how to spend your fourth of July in Disney World. First things first . . . I’m the realest  . . . Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry  . . . DARN YOU IGGY AZALEA. The two best places to watch fireworks for the fourth are Magic Kingdom and Epcot. But because I love food so much . . . so very, very much, we decided it would be more fun to eat around the world then afterwards spend the rest of the night watching fireworks in the park. And that is exactly what we did. When you travel the world you get a greater sense of how amazing your own country is, so what better way to appreciate the fourth than by going to Epcot? Just so you don’t get lost here is a map of Epcot. The type of course I took while in Epcot was the Foodie Trek, but maybe you don’t want to …

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia

No not this Chia: this chia : Chia seeds are a trending new way of being healthy, and I absolutely approve. I get up late sometimes (well really, almost every day), and I sadly can’t make eggs, bacon and oatmeal in the tiring 20 mibute dash that goes on at 8 in the morning. So I use chia seeds to take the place of breakfast, kind of like a protein shake. ” But really Ashley are you honestly expecting me to swallow seeds, I mean come on,” well you don’t necesarily eat them like that, though I do tend to sprinkle them on my oatmeal from time to time. Usually you would add chia seeds to a drink, or even yogurt (which is extremley delicious, I assure you), while letting the chia seeds sit for about 2 minutes you should stir them so they don’t get clumped together. What are Chia seeds supposed to do? When you drink chia seeds, as soon as they hit you r stomach they expand. No, your stomach will not …

Le Diplomate

One day I had a sudden craving for french cuisine, you know the usual want for crepes and french fries  and creme brûlée. Suddenly on the horizon, there it was. Yes, surrounded by outdoor tables and cute topiaries was Le Diplomate. If your looking for french food, at a moderate price, look no further than Le Diplomate. The interior walls are covered with tour de france memorabilia, white linen tables, a glass roofed side-room, and a warm glow from the ceiling lights. As soon as you walk in your greeted by a wide array of breads, not your usual olive garden breadsticks and rolls, but freshly made assorted varieties of bread that is cut on the spot and served to you as an appetizer. I recommend the escargot, just to be daring, it’s a really good place for first time escargot eaters, because it’s not creepy looking (they seem to be able to pass them off as mushrooms really well). But if your not feeling up to the flavors of France, or one of your …
